Hope Rising

Hope Rising – To Lift A Nation

MA_Home_Flag Raising

Hope Rising – To Lift A Nation, is a heroic-size (9ft) bronze monument that depicts the three firemen who raised the American flag at Ground Zero soon after the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.

The photograph of that poignant moment was captured by Thomas E. Franklin a photographer for The Record, a newspaper in North Jersey. World-renowned sculptor, Stan Watts, was granted permission to create a sculpture in the likeness of this photograph.

This monument will stand as a permanent reminder of a day we should never forget. It will serve as a fitting memorial for those we lost in the attacks of 9.11, and have since lost in the war on terror. Most importantly, it will stand as a symbol of the hope we felt on a day we lost so many… yet stood together.

About Sculptor Stan Watts

MA_Home_About Sculptor

Artist, Sculptor and Bronze Foundry Owner Stanley James Watts was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and grew up in the city’s Sugarhouse neighborhood. While attending Salt Lake’s South High School he was already a noted artist, being recognized as a Sterling Scholar in art. Watts went on to attend Utah State University in Logan, Utah.

Watts was heavily influenced by noted sculptor
Dr. Avard Fairbanks who told the young Watts “you only have so many sculptures in you so make them count, make them meaningful”. Encouraged by that, Watts’ body of work has focused on inspiring greater appreciation for our freedom, families and faith (regardless of religion). Watts has created many religious themed bronze sculptures, including a monumental bronze sculpture depicting Joseph and Hyrum Smith on horseback; this bronze statue is placed directly in front of the Nauvoo LDS Temple in Nauvoo, Illinois. A recent masterpiece, and Watts’ personal favorite, is his depiction of the Good Samaratan.

Stan is also well known for his custom Architectural bronze work, examples of this work can be seen at the St. Regis Hotel at Deer Crest, Deer Valley, Utah. Watts is a generous mentor for aspiring young sculptors and is sought after for his excellent foundry work. He is not only a Utah treasure, he is truly a national treasure.
We are honored that Stan and his excellent team at Atlas Bronze Works created this inspiring “Hope Rising – To Lift A Nation” monument for Utah.
